Transforming the lives of disabled people
The need for disabled people to enjoy the same access to the kind of day-to-day activities the rest of us take for granted has put VCL into the forefront of a multi-million pound niche market.
In the process it has also helped to transform the lives of thousands of people by freeing them from a variety of physical restrictions.
One of our key specialities is the ability to modify otherwise ordinary vehicles to enable them to have bespoke wheelchair access.
In only a few years our Cheshire-based company has delivered many hundreds of specially-adapted vehicles to local authorities, charities, day care centres and nursing homes across the UK.
Such disability-friendly vehicles can be used in towns, cities and rural communities to provide a lifeline for those who might otherwise never visit shopping centres or take outings.
It can take our workforce as little as three weeks to turn a standard van into a vehicle containing its own wheelchair lifting system.
The main problem is making sure the floor of the vehicle is sufficiently strong to take the extra weight. Other important factors involve fitting windows, seats and upholstery, insulating materials, air conditioning, hand-rails, steps – and even TVs.
All disabilities are taken into account by our designers. Some conversions, for example, have electrically-operated doors for use by the partially sighted.
Whether for use by disabled people or not, we have an unrivalled reputation for building mini-buses with between five and 16 seats based on a host of vehicle types that range from (among others) Mercedes, Volkswagen, Iveco, Renault, Citroen, Peugeot and Toyota chassis.
We employ the latest specifications to ensure safety while full paint and exterior wrap facilities are available.
